Message "The Z was started as a race car in the late 80s in Japan with the turbo motor...."

The Z32 design team of Sono and Yamashita began work on the 4th generation Z in 1984. Which "race car" are you talking about? The Z32 was a clean sheet, production sports car design.

You basic premise is that the Z32 was designed as a twin turbo from the beginning. You're wrong. The "Type F" prototype that later became the Z32 was designed as a full scale model long BEFORE the engine design was chosen.

Nissan even considered a normally aspirated VQ series engine and the VH45 V8 for the new Z. (see Brian Long's book, "Nissan 300ZX"). Only Sono and his design team know when they decided to go with the twin turbo engine, but it was obviously late in the design cycle.

I think that Damon's point is getting washed out here, with all the name calling and shouting. If the VG series twin turbo engine was designed for the Z32 from the BEGINNING, how do you explain the restrictive precat design, buried O2 sensor placement, etc. ? Any automotive designer worth his salt would know that Nissan went through some engineering hocus-pocus to get the twin turbo design to fit.

If you knew the engineering subtleties of the the Z32 TT, you wouldn't be making such ridiculous claims. Please base your arguments on facts, not speculation.

By the way , the NA Z32 was released 6 months before the the TT.
